Distill

Privacy

Effective 15 October 2026

Distill does not collect any data. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind, and it sends nothing about you or your files to anyone – not to us, and not to third parties.

Your files

Everything Distill does happens on your Mac. Files you add are read, converted and written by the app and the engines inside it, on your computer. They are never uploaded. Results are saved next to the originals or in the folder you choose; originals are never changed.

While you look at files, Distill keeps trial conversions (used to show sizes and previews) in its own cache folder on your Mac, which is emptied each time Distill starts.

Network

Distill makes no internet connections of its own. To turn a document into a PDF it lays the page out with WebKit, the engine behind Safari; if a document you convert refers to a picture on the web, WebKit may load that picture to place it on the page, just as a browser would.

Permissions

Distill runs in Apple's App Sandbox. It can only open files you give it and save into folders you allow. The first time it saves next to your files in a folder, macOS asks you to allow that folder; Distill remembers your answer on your Mac.

Your settings

Your choices (quality, size limit, picture size and where results go) are stored on your Mac only.

Crash reports

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in macOS's settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports on to us. You can change this at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

Children

Distill collects no data from anyone, including children.
